Graduate Studies in Civil and Environmental Engineering

Graduate Lab

Graduate research and education are among the key strengths of the department. The civil engineering program placed 10th in the nation in the most recent US News and World Report rankings and the environmental program came in at 13th. With research expenditures exceeding $21 million in 2012-13, our faculty members are engaged in advanced research on a variety of subjects dealing with the preservation, protection and sustainability of the natural and built environment. Our interests and expertise can be viewed as a trichotomy of overlapping systems (natural systems, built systems and behavioral systems) in conjunction with a trichotomy of methodologies (mathematics and computational methods, laboratory experimentation on model scales and real-time measurements in the natural and built environment).
