Faculty Awards

Since its inception in 1965, our department has had numerous distinguished achievements to its credit, including eight National Academy of Engineering members (four are currently Emeriti faculty and four were elected in the past two years).  Amongst the current faculty:  seven are National Science Foundation Career Award recipients, three are elected ASCE Fellows and one has been named a Distinguished Member of ASCE.  One has been named a Guggenheim Foundation Fellow as well as an American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow and five others have been awarded the ASCE Huber Prize for notable contributions to civil engineering research.

A number of our current faculty have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to education, including two College of Engineering Outstanding Teaching awards, two Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching awards, one American Society of Engineering Education Keillor award, and one National Society of Professional Engineers Education Excellence award.

Our faculty also have an outstanding tradition of service to the campus, the profession and society.  Nine of our current faculty serve as directors of research centers, including the Tahoe Environmental Research Center, the Center for Watershed Sciences, the Center for Geotechnical Modelling, the Center for Water-Energy Efficiency, the Western Cooling Efficiency Center, the Institute for Transportation Studies, the Air Quality Research Center, the Pavement Research Center and the NSF Engineering Research Center for Bio-mediated and Bio-inspired Geotechnics.  Two current members have earned the Academic Senate Distinguished Scholarly Public Service Award.  At least seven of the faculty currently serve on Editorial Boards of leading journals in civil engineering and all faculty are active in serving on professional committees and as reviewers for journals.
