CEE Professor John Harvey Receives ASCE Award

Professor John Harvey has been selected by the American Society of Civil Engineers to receive the 2019 Frank M. Masters Transportation Engineering Award for “research, development and implementation results in the areas of pavement design, materials, rapid construction, pavement management and the quantification of environmental impacts on pavement that are used around the world.”

The Frank M. Masters Transportation Engineering Award is a memorial to the outstanding professional accomplishments of Frank M. Masters, Hon.M.ASCE. The award is supported by the income from a bequest from Mr. Masters. The award was established by the Board of Direction in November 1975.

Harvey’s research emphasis is pavement engineering, including materials, construction, design, management, lifecycle cost and environmental lifecycle assessment. In addition to serving as director of the University of California Pavement Research Center, he teaches concrete and flexible pavement design and rehabilitation, asphalt concrete materials and project management at UC Davis. He has been with UC Davis since 2002, and prior to that worked at UC Berkeley for 13 years and for a consultant for four years in Nigeria and Texas. He worked in a District 3 construction office in Sacramento in 1983. He is a registered professional engineer in California.
