ABET Accreditation
In the United States, accreditation is a non-governmental, peer-review process that assures the quality of the post-secondary education students receive in engineering and computer science. Educational institutions or programs volunteer to undergo this review periodically to determine if specific criteria are being met.
ABET Mission
ABET serves the public globally through the promotion and advancement of education in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. This organization:
- Accredits educational programs
- Promotes quality and innovation in education
- Consults and assists in the development and advancement of education worldwide
- Communicates and collaborates with its constituents and the public
- Anticipates and prepares for the changing educational environment and the future needs of its constituents
- Manages its operations and resources in an effective and fiscally responsible manner
Although the accreditation process is voluntary, the UC Davis College of Engineering chooses to go through this rigorous process to meet quality standards set by engineering professional leaders. The result is that we provide lasting benefits to students, employers, industry and society as a whole.
ABET requires that each program within the College of Engineering makes available to the public certain information, namely their Program Educational Objectives, their Student Outcomes, their accreditation status and data on their student enrollments and degrees granted.
