Professor Michele Barbato Named Structural Engineering Institute Fellow

UC Davis CEE Professor Michele Barbato was recently named ASCE Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) Fellow.

The distinction recognizes SEI members who are leaders and mentors in structural engineering with more than a decade of responsibility for important structural engineering work, educational activities, or research. SEI Fellows have obtained notable achievements that exhibit innovation, originality, creativity, benefit to society, and/or advancement of the profession. The 2019 SEI Fellows will be recognized during the Closing Plenary Lunch of the 2019 Structures Congress on April 27, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency Orlando.

Barbato’s research emphasis is modeling and analysis of reinforced concrete, steel, steel-concrete, wood-concrete composite structures, reinforced concrete structures retrofitted with fiber reinforced polymers, and soil-foundation-structure interaction systems.

He received his Laurea Degree in civil engineering from Sapienza University of Rome, his M.S. in structural engineering from UC San Diego and his Ph.D. in structural engineering from UC San Diego in 2007
