UC Davis Alumnus Wins 2022 Stockholm Water Prize
Professor Emeritus Wilfried Brutsaert was awarded the 2022 Stockholm Water Prize for his groundbreaking work on quantifying terrestrial evaporation and its role in the energy balance of Earth. His work has allowed for accurate estimations of evolving precipitation levels, along with new ways of understanding groundwater storage. Professor Brutsaert's work is especially important given the climate crisis.
Born and raised in Ghent, Belgium, Professor Brutsaert graduated from UC Davis with a master's in irrigation engineering in 1960 and a Ph.D. in engineering in 1962. He later joined the civil engineering faculty at Cornell University, where he stayed for the rest of his teaching career. He will receive the Stockholm Water Prize on August 31, 2022, during World Water Week.
