CEE grad students win 1st place for Global Health & Global Impact in 2015 Big Ideas@Berkeley competition

Civil & Environmental Engineering graduate students Ezequiel Santillan and Kyle Fuller in collaboration with colleagues, Harold Leverenz, Solange Astorga and Lisa Marroquin, submitted a proposal to the 2015 Big Ideas@Berkeley competition. Their project aimed to provide a sustainable disinfection alternative for the effluent of a wastewater treatment plant in Sololá, Guatemala, which is being used to irrigate crops.

Their proposal won 1st place in the Global Health category and was selected for the Grand Prize Pitch Day, where they also won 1st place in the Global Impact category.

Ezequiel, Kyle, Solange, and Lisa generously donated the award they received from Big Ideas@Berkeley to the UC Davis CEE department where it will be displayed and serve as an inspirational for future UC Davis teams that might participate in the competition in years to come.
